Aisyah K.
AuditorWhat is the nature of your role and its responsibilities?
My role involves reviewing and verifying the accuracy of financial reports to ensure compliance with current financial standards and tax regulations. I also evaluate the organization’s internal controls to identify potential risks or fraudulent activities.
What led you to follow this career path?
My decision to pursue this career path was driven by a strong curiosity to learn about various industries and gain a broad understanding of different business operations. Working at a Big 4 firm offers exposure to a wide range of clients and industries, which allows for continuous learning and professional growth. Additionally, the career progression and exit opportunities after several years at a Big 4 firm are very appealing. The experience gained in such a dynamic and fast-paced environment opens doors to diverse roles, whether within the firm or in other sectors, offering long-term career flexibility.
What qualification(s) or training did you complete?
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and have completed the ACCA qualification. I am currently an ACCA Affiliate, with just one more year of required professional experience to qualify as a Chartered Accountant. Once I fulfill this final requirement, I will be fully registered as a Chartered Accountant, which will further enhance my professional credentials and open up additional career opportunities.
How are your qualification(s) or training useful in your everyday job?
My qualifications and training provide me with a strong foundation in auditing standards, accounting principles, and regulatory frameworks, allowing me to carry out audits with confidence and accuracy. Additionally, it’s essential for us to stay updated on changes in financial standards, as these updates directly impact how we approach audits.
What does an average working day look like for you?
We typically work either at the client’s office or from home. Our day usually begins by checking emails, reviewing important messages from clients, and responding accordingly. After that, we examine the accounting records, conduct testing, and perform tasks to ensure accuracy. We rely heavily on Excel files for our audit working papers. If we identify any unusual activities, we send queries to the client for further clarification.
What aspect of your role do you most enjoy?
I enjoy meeting new people, especially clients and team members. We work with different colleagues depending on the client engagement, which typically lasts 3 to 4 months.
What aspect of your job do you find most challenging?
First, it’s important to understand the client’s business and how their accounting processes operate. Second, following up with difficult clients to obtain the necessary documents can lead to delays in receiving information, which in turn can extend the audit timeline.
What would be your top piece of advice for anyone wanting to become an auditor?
My top advice for becoming an auditor and joining a Big 4 firm is to master your Excel skills, build resilience, and continuously improve your communication abilities.
