Yllka E.

Hi there, I'm Yllka (pronounced "ilka", like the chocolate Milka, but without the 'M'!). I'm a qualified teacher with many years of experience tutoring privately and teaching in public schools, with additional experience as an A-level Physics examiner. Most of my training and mentoring as a teacher has been from the Institute of Physics. I've helped students refine their exam technique for Physics, Maths and Further Maths across various exam boards and helped bridge gaps in their knowledge through use of interactive simulations, diagrams and derivations of formulae. 

I love learning new things, and most recently I have been constructing geometric patterns, taking on complicated knitting projects and have an interest in studying about different learning approaches and theories. I have two young girls and I'm currently homeschooling them part-time during the day, hence the limited availability during the evenings. 

Students describe my style as warm and enthusiastic. I always think of new ways to explain complicated ideas and use animations and drawings to help convey this. I use my iPad Pro and Macbook Pro to teach my lessons, which helps students to see how best to model their answers or lay out their working out. I personalise my teaching to suit the students' needs, based on their current level, their predicted grade and if they have any learning difficulties that need to be taken into account. 

My lessons foster an open and non-intimidating environment, where students can feel comfortable to ask any questions and even make mistakes, where I may need to address their misunderstanding and explain that topic in another way, or sometimes even use very simplified analogies to help them understand the basics of it. I welcome constructive feedback from parents and students, and adjust my teaching accordingly. I like to let my students take the lead to see how well they have understood a topic, giving them the confidence to do the same in their own study time.
