About Priyanka
Howdy, y'all! I am Priyanka! I graduated with a first-class degree in Biochemistry from the University of Exeter. I have worked in research at Harvard Medical School studying cell-cell interactions in HSV disease. I am currently researching p53 mutant leukemia at MD Anderson Cancer Center. I specifically study the effects of treatments on mouse models and what stem cell progenitors are upregulated in this disease as potential drug targets. I am passionate about science and discovering drug targets. I hope to complete an MD/PhD one day.
I understand the stress and pressure of exam study but I hope to offer my students a well-planned out session, providing a safe and non-judgmental space where they feel comfortable to ask questions. I hope to create a fun and relaxed learning environment.
My style of tutoring focuses on a problem-based approach. After going through the theory of a topic, I like to focus on the application of the student's knowledge to questions to test understanding but also focus on their approach to reading and interpreting the question.
With my previous experience in tutoring students in school for chemistry, I have seen that the best way for a student to learn effectively is to use problem-based learning. I am offering tutoring in chemistry and biology at GCSE and A-level as well as help on writing personal statements. I have had great success in my 4+ years of tutoring with many students achieving their target grades and higher, moving on to complete higher education at top Redbrick universities.
Outside my academic studies, I play volleyball while regularly going to the gym and going to sports events! Go 49ers!
Tutoring Style
My tutoring approach centers on problem-based learning, empowering students to not only apply their acquired knowledge but also refine their exam techniques. Prior to each session, I engage with the student to identify specific focus areas and pinpoint topics that pose challenges. To gauge comprehension, I commence sessions with a brief quiz on the preceding week's material, addressing any questions or concerns that may arise.
Throughout the lesson, I strategically revisit and clarify aspects of the subject matter that the student finds challenging, ensuring a comprehensive understanding. Utilizing past exam questions, I guide the student in applying the newly acquired knowledge, reinforcing key concepts. To solidify their grasp, we delve into practical exam scenarios, enhancing both understanding and test-taking skills.
As our session concludes, I guide the student towards targeted exam questions for independent practice, fostering self-assessment and reinforcing their learning. Additionally, I recommend relevant science review articles to encourage further exploration and deepening of their understanding beyond the core material. My tutoring style thus integrates tailored guidance, active engagement, and a multifaceted approach to support the student's academic growth.
