About Olivia
First-class Biochemistry graduate with a passion for science, which I enjoy nothing more than using to inspire others. I have tutored students science for the last eight years, with my students progressing into great things — from medical school to jobs in engineering. I am also experienced in offering guidance through interview preparation, further education options and applications, personal statements, and admissions tests. I have recieved only highly positive feedback.
Each student has been a very different individual, with varying goals, and these positive reviews reflect my ability to alter lessons to fit to each student. I have always enjoyed exploring difficult concepts and explaining them to others and believe this has led me to develop key skills in explaining my way of thinking to others. My ability to clearly explain what I learn has been praised during this time and resulted in my election as a chemistry ambassador in sixth form and biochemistry representative at Bristol University.
Having been a content intern for PMT Education and created science A level resources, I am up to date with each exam board's content and have some great revision tips and tricks. I have a multitude of resources such as posters and readily made flashcards that cover all the key points for every subject. My techniques not only allowed my students to achieve highly, but are also those I used myself to achieve three A*s at A-level.
Tutoring Style
I approach classes by quickly gathering where a student is at currently in their subject and which areas they find particularly difficult. Following the syllabus closely, I then address basic knowledge, vital to understanding the more complex ideas. I work through topics in increasing difficulty and with logical order, finding which of my revision methods work best for the student. I am always on hand outside of the lessons if they have any questions they come across in their own studying time.
I have experience in teaching younger individuals and some of whom struggle with motivation and focus. Through mutual respect and by making content relavent to their interests, I am highly skilled in maintaining student attention during sessions. I also believe in setting small, frequent targets for students as I know seeing yourself improving acts as great motivation to continue to do so.
