Hello, my name is Naveena. I am currently doing my Masters degree at Imperial College London. I completed my undergraduate degree in Medical Sciences at the University of Exeter. I'm thoroughly enjoying the way my degree incorporates chemistry into human biology, something I developed a real passion for at A-level. I hope to develop your passion for science, economics and maths as I feel this is a fundamental tool to have when studying or revising for any subject; you are more motivated and receptive to the content and I feel this can have a big impact on your grades.

As a Tutor, I want to create a safe and open learning environment where my students feel comfortable to ask me questions and get answers wrong and we learn from it. There is no pressure to be the best, we are doing nothing more than trying to build you as a student. I want to learn as much from the student as they are from me, so I will consolidate our learning with exam practice so I can see if the student has picked up on all the key information and has a solid understanding but also to ensure I am explain it in a way which they understand. This allows me to develop key exam techniques and skills whilst consolidating knowledge. I feel confidence is crucial to doing well- how can the student develop themselves when they don't trust they can do it and this is something I want to encourage and build with my students. I find a lot of the time when students are demotivated, that is a fundamental issue with the way they are learning and in my classes I want to change that; I ensure I make them as relaxed as I can to ensure the student looks forward to them, it should not be the longest hour ever but something that adds to their already busy schedule in a positive way! 

My sessions will be led by you, we will start by focussing on an overview of the topic, a quick quiz maybe, this way I can see how well you know the content. From here, I will consolidate any knowledge you do not understand or struggle with. I like to teach concepts rather than content, this is because it will make it so much easier to apply to the exam questions. We will then end the session with exam questions, more problem- solving based questions to consolidate the learning done. I focus on the 3,4,5 and 6 mark questions as well as the suggest questions. My aim is to show you the hardest questions so I can incorporate how to apply their knowledge- as this is what the new style of exams are testing. We start by breaking the questions down together, here I show you the techniques involved in breaking down questions and how we can apply the concepts we have just learnt. By doing this, I can also show you what particular part of the content the examiner wants you to apply, this stops you from just putting everything you know and hoping something is correct. After this, we focus on building confidence, I slowly stop breaking down questions with you and let you do it. I am there as a 'safety blanket' and this way I can be there if you feel like you can't do it but also I build your confidence as you become more comfortable to work on your own. By the end, you will be surprised by how far you have come. This will help them to reach the top grades and structure their answers better.
