Tutoring Style
The approach that my lessons take will depend on the students background, level of study and the time of year at which lessons begin. Here is how I would typically organise lessons for A-level students approaching me at the beginning or middle of the academic year.
In the first lesson, I learn more about the students background and begin with a discussion on their academic record, aspirations for the current academic year and make a list of topics they don`t feel comfortable with. Using this information we will put together a plan for the academic year that will enable them to achieve the grades they desire. We will make a start on this plan within the first lesson.
In the following sessions, we will tackle each of the topics that the student doesn`t feel they have a good grasp on. Homework is regularly set at the end of each lesson, and we go through any problems at the beginning of the next lesson.
Closer to the end of the year, we focus even more on exam practice. The plan for the remainder of the year is dependent on the student and their current position, but there is an emphasis on exam practice. I make use of my own catalogue of exam materials to aide this.
In addition, I provide university application help (including the personal statement) for Year 13 students as part of my services. Keep in mind that you are not only paying for a very specialised Maths tutor; my students also benefit from being able to reach me any time of the week for help outside of lessons.
