Hi, I'm Lavan, nearing the completion of my PhD in Computational Chemistry at University College London (UCL). I specialise in crafting a teaching approach that resonates with each student's unique learning style. My emphasis is on truly understanding the material, rather than just memorising it. This involves beginning with basic concepts and gradually building upon them, integrating structured techniques for easy recall of critical information.

To enrich the learning experience further, I develop bespoke worksheets, videos, and revision guides, tailored specifically to my students' needs. Nearing exam time, my focus pivots to two vital skills: exam technique and time management. I employ a strategy of reviewing multiple past papers and mock tests, which aids in identifying areas requiring improvement and informs the focus of subsequent lessons. Additionally, I share various tips and strategies I've developed throughout my academic journey, aiming to enhance my students' overall learning experience.

A typical lesson would be as follows:

● We start by going through any doubts from the homework that was set from the previous lesson. 

● This is followed by teaching the next topic (new content) – emphasising key points that are highlighted on the specification. 

● Next, we work through questions from various textbooks. To begin with, there would be guidance for each question and by the end of the lesson my students will attempt the question with minimal help from me. 

● Finally, we go through any remaining doubts that have arisen throughout the lesson or any problems that need to be clarified from their school or university.

Closer towards the exams my efforts would be focused towards two crucial skills. The first being exam technique and the second being timing. The approach I take for this is by going through multiple past papers and mock tests. This helps me to understand where my students need to improve and thus where to focus my attention for the upcoming lessons. In addition to this, I give my students tips and tricks that I have developed over my time as a student.
