Hi, I’m Lania, a second-year medical student with over four years of experience tutoring GCSE Biology. My passion for the subject, combined with my in-depth understanding of human biology from medical school, allows me to bring science to life for my students and is how I scored a grade 9 at GCSE

One of my core teaching philosophies is that true understanding trumps rote memorization. While memorizing facts might help in the short term, real academic success comes from grasping concepts at a deeper level. That’s why I encourage my students to ask questions, think critically, and develop a solid foundation that will not only help them excel in GCSE Biology but also support them in future scientific studies.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with students of all abilities, helping them build confidence in their knowledge and exam technique. My previous students consistently praise my engaging and supportive teaching style, noting how I make complex topics more accessible and less intimidating. Many have gone on to achieve top grades, and, most importantly, they’ve developed a newfound appreciation for biology.

As a medical student, I understand the pressures of exams and academic challenges, and I use my firsthand experience to provide my students with effective study techniques, exam strategies, and a structured approach to revision. My goal is not just to help students pass their exams but to instill a lasting understanding and curiosity for the subject.

I strongly believe that learning should be engaging, enjoyable, and, most importantly, tailored to each student’s unique learning style especially since I have experience teaching students with special needs and learning disabilities. That’s why I take a personalized approach to tutoring, adapting my teaching methods to suit individual needs—whether that means using visual aids, interactive discussions, or breaking down complex topics into simple, relatable concepts. My students often tell me that my enthusiasm for biology is contagious, making even the trickiest topics feel more approachable and exciting.

I tend to refrain from assigning exam questions early on until I feel the student has a solid understanding of each topic through the weekly quizzes I set at the beginning of each lesson. Repetition has a huge role in my tutoring style so the content is stored in their long term memory before we tackle exam questions. After ensuring the content is understood, we will of course progress to exam questions and tackling exam style responses to achieve the highest grades.
