About Kayleigh
I’m a professional playwright, published poet and tutor with over 3 years experience teaching on other online platforms, working with schools and private students. I have a track record of helping students achieve their desired grades and meet their targets in a variety of subjects:
◾KS2 & KS3 English
◾GCSE English Language and Literature
◾GCSE Biology
◾A Level Law
◾Undergraduate Criminology
I now focus on tutoring English at GCSE. I cover all exam boards and set texts!
Why I tutor: I enjoy tutoring English as it’s such a creative subject which encourages self-expression. Studying English also teaches you how to analyse texts and form your own interpretations, which is key to developing independent, critical thinking as a life skill. There are no wrong answers; any interpretation is valid so long as you can justify it! Acing your assessment is all about how you present your ideas to meet what your examiners are looking for, so I’m here to help with structure and exam technique as well as to develop your ideas.
My favourite areas to teach are: Creative writing, the Literature set texts (including Macbeth, An Inspector Calls, A Christmas Carol, Jane Eyre, Romeo and Juliet, Jekyll and Hyde) and unseen poetry.
Some fun facts about me: I’m a professional playwright and dramaturg working in theatre. My own plays have been performed across the South West, London and beyond, at theatres including Exeter Phoenix, The Other Palace and The Curve, Leicester. I’m also a gig photographer and published poet!
I graduated from the University of Leeds in 2020 with a First Class (Hons) BA Criminal Justice and Criminology (International) degree, so I’m always up for a quick chat with students interested in these areas. I offer Admissions tutoring and can help with personal statements or applications for all subjects, especially those that are Law or Criminology related!
Tutoring Style
My sessions are tailored to my students' needs and learning style. I identify the skills they need to work on, and plan accordingly! For GCSE English, activities can include:
◾practising how to form interpretations of texts
◾discussing and developing ideas and analysis
◾structuring and writing essays
◾practising creative writing & finding approaches that work for you
◾working through each question on a past paper in detail
◾practising using subject terminology, identifying techniques and/or linking to context
I also enjoy preparing model essays to teach by example, and making tailored PDF resources for my students to support their learning! 📚
Cancellations and no-show policy
Please note that I do not offer refunds for no-shows. If you know you will be unable to make a lesson, please cancel your booking. Cancellations made with more than 48 hours notice will receive a full refund, and cancellations with less than 48 hours notice will be charged at 50% of the lesson cost. (I will however consider waiving this in exceptional circumstances, such as emergencies!)
