Hello! My name is Gavindu and I'm currently in my second year of an Integrated Masters in Computer Science with a year in industry, at the University of York.

I have been tutoring for 3.5 years in Computer Science, as well as being a programming tutor for CodeNinjas. I have completed formal training in tutoring and have a lot of experience tutoring children with special needs.

Alongside helping students master content and refine exam techniques, I aim to inspire a deeper appreciation for the subject as genuine curiosity enhances understanding and encourages further learning. With that, my lessons will be fun and engaging while being fully informative, as the lessons will be based fully on the exam specification.

As for my results, I have achieved a 1st Class in my first year, even getting the highest grade in the cohort in 2 of my modules. I have achieved 9's in most of my subjects including Maths, Computer Science, Music and all sciences. I also achieved an A* in Computer Science at A level, including 73/75 in my NEA (coursework) which I have helped many students complete to a high standard. As for extracurriculars, I have also completed grade 8 and 7 in piano and guitar, winning a formal competition for piano in the process.

My tutoring style varies depending on the needs of the student and what they want to gain from the lessons. The lessons themselves are very flexible, with most students opting to provide a topic to go through at the start of the lesson, and continue with it throughout the session.

A "normal" session will of course differ student to student and topic to topic, but essentially it will start with me introducing the topic, explaining some key words and context behind it. Afterwards, I'll explain the topic fully, and go through practice questions together with the student to make sure they undestand the topic. Towards the end, the student will answer some past paper topic questions.

This is a general structure and will completely change for more practical topics such as programming and NEA support.
