As a passionate scientist who enjoys working with young pupils, I started tutoring Key Stage 1-4 pupils in science and maths just before the pandemic in 2020. This was the closest experience to a classroom environment that I had and enjoyed I it immensely. This led me to embark upon teacher's training in secondary science with Biology being my specialism subject. I have since helped my students improve their knowledge and scientific skills as well as implement a variety of revision skills to obtain the best outcomes. I have also volunteered at a special needs school as part of my extracurricular activities and have the experience of teaching students with various educational needs. Alongside developing further passion for the sciences, teaching has taught me to stay calm under pressure and immensely improved my organization and time management skills. I believe in a healthy work-life balance so in my spare time, I enjoy swimming, playing badminton and watching a series or two on Netflix. When it comes to teaching, there are numerous concepts that I have picked up from both pedagogy (training) and experience that have proved to be useful to students. I always want the lesson to be student led - this is the best way to know whether or not they have understood a concept. It is important for them to think about what they are learning and use their critical thinking skills rather than taking in information all the time. This is tested through verbal questioning, progress checkpoints in between lessons and of course, tons of exam practise! I even let them run me through a previously taught concept very briefly at the start of a fresh lesson in order to decide the course of that lesson. To teach a new concept, I explain it, run through a question/example with the student and then get them to independently work on it. This is called the "I Do, We Do, You Do" method.
