About Dharun

Hi! My name is Dharun and I'm studying the 'Quantum Fields and Fundamental Forces' MSc at Imperial College London with a First-Class honour BSc in Theoretical Physics from Lancaster University.

Ever since completing my A-Levels, I've been tutoring to get others interested in and excel at maths and physics. I've worked with a range of student capabilities so whatever your current standard is I can help you push beyond that. I also understand that exam technique is often an overlooked part of learning so I'll also teach you how to deal with exams effectively to get you the grade you desire.

In terms of qualifications, I have 4A*s at A-Level in Maths (which I got 100% in), Further Maths, Physics, and Economics and I have an average of 90% to date for the degree I'm studying. Furthermore, at the end of my first year, I was awarded the prize for the highest result in the PHYS110 (Maths) modules at my university amongst a cohort of over 250 students.

After doing some research into pedagogical methods from books, articles and videos to educate myself on the skills required for teaching, I started tutoring.

I have been tutoring Maths and Physics GCSE & A-Level (online) for more than a year so far to pupils whose grades have been increasing ever since I started.

Tutoring Style

My teaching style is more akin to an informal conversation between me and the student. This way they stay engaged and I know they're understanding everything so far by repeatedly asking check-up questions. Moreover, the informality makes the topic at hand seem more approachable.

After covering the material I'll go through an example question and then ask another example question where the student will guide me to answer the question so I know they fully comprehend the material.
For the last few minutes of the lesson, I'll usually provide a rough summary of what's been covered as well as reflect on mistakes and tricky parts.
Lastly, I'll try to set weekly problem sheets for homework which should be done by the next lesson. Depending on the time of year, I also write mock papers tailored to the student's strengths and weaknesses (with an emphasis on their weaknesses). It is vital for the students to test themselves on the content to make sure they comprehend it. I then mark this and any significant issues (or sometimes strengths) displayed are gone through the lesson after.

Not only do I teach the syllabus content but I also teach students about effective revision methods, learning techniques and, for the most eager students, go beyond the course content so they are excited by the subject and what it will have to offer in the future.
