About Cameron

Hi, my name is Cameron, and I am a third-year Mathematics student currently enrolled on a 4-year integrated masters course. I am from Essex (eww I know), but luckily for me I am the antithesis of the stereotype. My passions lie within Maths, sports and food (lots and lots of it). Hence, to counterweigh my food addiction, I enjoy playing all sports and enjoy working out regularly. Since starting my GCSEs I have fallen in love with Mathematics, and I hope to enthuse my students with the same passion. Crucially now, more than ever, Mathematics is integral to life, but unfortunately I believe there is a great disengagement with the subject at the education level. We all remember sitting in our Maths classes asking the teacher when we will actually use Pythagoras' Theorem in our normal lives, with the classic response being something to do with your exams. For this reason, the opportunity to enthuse students with the joy of Mathematics is lost. These sessions will not only offer an improvement to the student, but real life examples and proofs will be provided to emphasise the student's enthusiasm. The sessions will begin with me attempting to gauge the student's ability in a certain area, by getting them to do an example whilst talking me through what they are doing. This will allow me to find the fault in their thought process, and fix it, to then go on to conclude with me going through harder examples to deepen their understanding and improve their ability in exams.

Tutoring Style

My sessions will be focusing on going through how I would approach certain problems in mathematics, and then to see if the student fully understands the steps I do and can replicate it themselves. Another important thing I will focus on is reasoning, trying to see if the student understands why they are doing certain calculations. This gives me an indication of how well a student understands the topic they are studying, and prepares them for tricky exam questions.

Finally, the most important thing a student can do is practice maths, whether it is past exam papers or questions from a textbook, this is what makes the learning you have done in maths stick with you and be able to apply it to questions you face in the exam.
