Hi! I’m Ben, a dedicated maths tutor and graduate of Trinity College, Cambridge University where I got a 2:1 in mathematics. Prior to that, I got a 1 in STEP 2 and a 1 in STEP 3, and 3A*’s at A level in Maths, Further Maths and Physics.

I discovered my passion for tutoring while I was doing my A levels. My school had me tutor some of the GCSE maths students at lunch times, and I developed a strong rapport with the students I worked with. It was amazing to see how much not only their understanding improved, but there enjoyment of the subject as well. The person I worked with most often started out with a 6 in his mock exams in year 11, but ended up with a 9 in the GCSE. I was over the moon, and I've been happily recreating this experience ever since.

I believe maths is something you can only learn by being actively engaged. Therefore, my lessons are highly interactive, and focus on asking the student questions that start simple but progress steadily until they gain a full grasp of the concept at hand, and are able to solve some very challenging problems on their own.

For a student to improve their understanding they need to feel safe to admit to their tutor that they don’t understand something. That is why I create a supportive learning environment in which students know that I will not judge them, no matter what their level of ability is, and no matter what mistakes they make.
