About Annabelle

Hi, I'm Annabelle and I've just finished my Masters degree in Chemistry at Durham University. I know just how challenging GCSE and A Level sciences/maths can be, not just having to remember facts but using and applying everything to get an answer. I understand the stresses and concerns, and am here to help. Revision and tutoring shouldn't be something to dread, and I want to make it as easy and stress-free for you as possible.

I found the best teachers at school were those who genuinely understood when students didn't always understand the material, and could explain it simply and not be patronising! This is why I think a recent university student like me is the perfect tutor, as I genuinely understand what you're going through and how to help. I've tutored over 650 hours worth of lessons and helped lots of students improve in their subject and get top grades.

I'm very passionate about chemistry, physics and maths, and I would love to help you get a better understanding and love them as well!

Tutoring Style

I believe that it is fundamental to learning to properly understand a concept, not just be able to recite a sentence from the textbook, as most exams aren't just a memory test. This is what I aim to do in my sessions - find a topic you're not too strong on, take it back to basics and work up until it actually makes sense, not just go through one very specific question. It's very important to me that the lessons are based around you and what you need and want to learn, to ensure that the most is made of these sessions. Ideally we would cover all topics at some point for the subject, because I always found if I didn't check the chapters in a textbook I'd always forget about one section, even if it was easier.

For a typical one hour session, I would aim to base it all around one topic. I would ask if you have any specific questions or areas of confusion, and then teach for around 30 minutes. I find it's a more fun and beneficial lesson if I'm not just talking for half an hour straight, so I try to make it more of a discussion and we'll go through the topic together. After that, I think it's super important that we do lots of questions together to consolidate your learning. The most important and useful thing for me when I revise is past papers and questions, so I always make sure you feel confident in answering questions on everything. My teaching style will be adapted to whatever works best for you, and of course to help make you enjoy the subject!
