I am a PhD student on the prestigious London Interdisciplinary Doctoral Programme, currently conducting research rotations across UCL, Oxford, and QMUL. With nearly five years of tutoring experience, I specialise in A-level Biology while also offering tutoring in Chemistry, Maths, and Further Maths. For GCSE students, I cover Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Maths.
My tailored approach has helped students improve their grades significantly, with my GCSE students moving from 5s/6s in their predicted grades to 8s/9s, and A-level students progressing from Bs to As/A*s. Tutoring Style
Patience and adaptability are at the heart of my tutoring approach. I begin by assessing what my students already know and identifying gaps in their understanding, using this as a foundation to build on. To fill these gaps, I explain concepts from basic principles, ensuring students grasp the fundamentals before tackling more complex topics. My lessons are interactive, incorporating tools like flashcards to reinforce key ideas and asking probing questions that encourage critical thinking and problem-solving. This approach not only helps students understand the material but also equips them with the skills to confidently apply their knowledge to new challenges.
A key focus in my sessions, especially for Biology and Chemistry, is exam technique. Many students lose marks not because they lack knowledge but because they struggle to approach questions in the way examiners expect. I help students master the nuances of mark schemes, command words, and answer structure, turning exam technique into a major strength. This focus has been a gamechanger for many of my students, helping them make significant progress in their grades.
To embed content into long-term memory, I can also set targeted homework and revision tasks, using strategies like spaced repetition and active recall. These tasks help students retain key information and apply it effectively in exams, ensuring lasting improvement in both knowledge and confidence.
Beyond improving grades, I prepare students for the academic challenges ahead by strengthening their foundational understanding and providing practical strategies for exams and independent study. With my guidance, students not only achieve their immediate academic goals but also develop the tools to excel at leading universities and beyond.
