Hi there, my name is Alfie and I'm a Maths student at Durham University currently studying for a four year integrated masters with an end goal of getting my PhD. Mathematics, for me is the one subject I connected with due to how you can go from a massively complex problem spanning an entire whiteboard, down to a single digit solution. In my opinion there's just an inherent beauty to the process and the joy of completing a problem or finding a proof is second to none. Outside of my studies I volunteer as a scout leader and have done as an adult leader from my 18th birthday and as a young leader before that from the age of 14. Over this time have developed a wide range of skills in helping young people from ages 6 through 18 learn new skills and develop as people in general. As a tutor I aim to help my students not just be able to find solutions to problems and use the correct method, however I want my students to understand (wherever possible) why each method works. In my opinion, just teaching a method for a problem doesn't help a student learn which is why I always aim to go one step further.
