Business Performance AnalystWhat is the nature of your role and its responsibilities?
To monitor the business performance of the division to ensure meeting targets, mainly financial as well as operational.
What led you to follow this career path?
To be frank the scholarship as I am bonded to work with the company, I started with limited options. Even after working here for a few years, I have limited option to change my career path.
What qualification(s) or training did you complete?
As I am now in property industry, I attended some related trainings such as Property Development Lifecycle as well as technical ones such as Excel and PowerBI.
How are your qualification(s) or training useful in your everyday job?
I use Excel a lot in my day-to-day job so knowing the formulas and function in Excel has helped a lot. This career requires me to look at a lot of numbers so understanding Profit & Loss and some accounting principles helps too. Analytical skills from Economics also assist in figuring out the variances etc.
What does an average working day look like for you?
Preparing reports for financial and operational reporting in Excel and extracting and presenting the report in Power Point.
What aspect of your role do you most enjoy?
The nitty-gritty of drilling down the numbers to find out what causes a certain variance.
What aspect of your job do you find most challenging?
The routine aspect as you do almost the same thing every month and after a while you get used too it and it has become easy for you to do. And looking at long-term career progression, there is not much room to grow so you end up having to explore other positions in other departments.
What would be your top piece of advice for anyone wanting to become a performance analyst?
To have attention to detail and to be able to analyse data to produce useful insights.
